Program Manager — Rugged Computing Devices
We are currently looking for a Program Manager to oversee and direct the development activities and manage the overall execution of multiple programs for major customers for our rugged computing products. The Program Manager will handle projects, including complex systems integration activities and will be the program focal point for the total programs success.
The position requires the management and oversight of programs by planning, organizing, and controlling assigned resource and product development from conceptual stages through product life cycles to optimize profit and meet technical, financial, schedule, and corporate growth objectives.
Determines program objectives and overall approach and works with management to establish detailed program objectives and staff assignments. Ensures budgets, schedules, and performance requirements are defined and met in accordance with Specifications and SOW's.
Exercises judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Works collaboratively as a part of a management team to develop both the programs and the organization according to the evolving business plan.
Demonstrated ability to influence and obtain results a must. Must be a self-starting, multi-tasking, team player with a hands-on approach.
REPORTS TO: Director of Engineering and Operations
Primary Responsibilities
- Writes program proposals and pre-proposal documents.
- Provide costs and data to assist sales in preparing sales contracts or quotes.
- Ensures that all programs are executed and completed on time and within budget.
- Utilizes program management skills in initiating, planning, executing, monitoring, and closing new and existing programs.
- Ensures that program deliverables, qualifications, and data requirements are defined and appropriately coordinated.
- Develops and maintains program plans that identify work scope, schedules, milestones, and program team members.
- Integrates overall goals and objectives across multiple functions or multiple subsets of a larger program.
- Develops program charter; WBS; program management plan; and quality, risk, procurement, and risk management plans etc, as required.
- Manages day-to-day progress of product development and manufacture.
- Leads the program team by conducting regular team meetings, ensuring that action logs are kept and integrated schedules are available and accurate.
- Acts as the communication focal point to the customer (Internal & External Point of Contact), maintaining regular follow-up, status reviews and correspondence.
- Prepares and presents technical reviews to customers.
- Acts as an advisor to subordinate staff members to help meet established schedules or resolve technical or operational problems.
- Provides technical expertise and training to other departments in support of product development.
- Collaborates with a wide variety of functional areas such as sales, engineering, marketing, manufacturing, and operations to develop and provide product definitions responsive to customer needs and market opportunities.
- Communicates effectively with multi-disciplinary teams to monitor program progress, manage critical path activities.
- Reviews potential changes in scope of contract and advises management and customer of potential impact changes.
- Provides physical and capital requirements to management for programs.
- Participates in overall product strategy, requirements, development, and manufacturing coordination for new and emerging products.
- Participates in key sales situations for the product.
- Provides financial and technical justification for product selection and definition.
- Develops and cultivates strong customer and team relationships.
Qualifications
- BS Degree or equivalent in a technical discipline (Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, etc) required.
- At least 10 years of experience in an engineering environment; leadership, accountability, direct experience in electro-mechanical design and assembly and assembly are required.
- Candidates must have practical experience with visual workplace, job shop lean manufacturing techniques, knowledge of MRP and experience with effective quality systems - ISO 9001
- Minimum of 5 years in project or program management leading a cross-functional manufacturing team. MIL COTS experience preferred.
- Proficiency of Microsoft Office (Project, Word, Excel, Outlook, Visio and PowerPoint) is required.
- Ability to influence customers (internal & external).
- Must be outgoing, self-motivated, well organized and detail oriented, able to work well under pressure, be an excellent communicator and a creative problem solver
- Strong time management and organizational skills
- Strong leadership skills and the ability to apply those skills in the formation of a cohesive working group
- Willingness to respond to critical issues in a timely manner and work extended hours to meet program objectives
- Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to effectively listen and communicate with others to resolve conflicts in a professional manner
- Effective at delegating responsibilities, tracking progress toward and attaining project milestones
- Demonstrated ability to nurture and grow talented personnel skills a plus
